In a move to ease Pune’s daily commute, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is rolling out a major plan – the Inner Ring Road. This big project covers a whopping 88.13 km and is all set to make a real difference to how we get around the city. The first phase focuses on the stretch from Solu to Wagholi along Pune Nagar Road.
So, what’s the game plan? PMRDA wants to tackle the traffic mess on Pune Mumbai Expressway and Pune Nagar Road. Their plan is to make a direct link between Pune-Mumbai Expressway and Nagar Road, and the Inner Ring Road is the key to making that happen.
The first move is to sort out the Solu to Wagholi stretch on Pune Nagar Road. By doing this, PMRDA hopes to untangle the traffic snarl within the city. They’re teaming up with the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to build the Ring Road, an important link between Pune-Mumbai Expressway and Nagar Road. This partnership is a crucial step in making Pune’s traffic flow smoother.
According to PMRDA, the stretch from Vadgaon Shinde via Lohegaon to Wagholi (Solu) is a vital part of the Ring Road. The 5.70 km stretch from Vadgaon Shinde to Wagholi will be handled by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). At the same time, the Solu to Vadgaon stretch, known as Shinde Ring Road, falls under the PMRDA’s jurisdiction.
Now, let’s talk about the groundwork. PMRDA has kicked off the first phase by acquiring land in Solu, Vadgaon Shinde, and Nirgudi villages. This shows they’re serious about getting things moving.
Here’s a positive twist in the tale – in Vadgaon Shinde, local farmers who are affected by the project have joined hands with the community. They’ve agreed to give up some land to make way for the Ring Road. The affected area in Vadgaon Shinde covers 5.71 hectares, and the project got off the ground without any hitches on 12/11/2023.
A crucial meeting held on November 30, 2023, played a significant role in ironing out concerns and ensuring everyone is on the same page. This collaborative effort between PMRDA and the local community is a great example of working together for a common goal.
The Inner Ring Road project isn’t just about construction; it’s a game-changer for Pune’s traffic. By smartly tackling traffic issues and involving the local community, PMRDA is setting the stage for a more efficient Pune.
As the project unfolds, we can look forward to a city where traffic isn’t a headache, travel times are shorter, and getting around is a breeze. PMRDA’s forward-thinking approach is paving the way for Pune to become a smarter, better-connected city.
