A 27-year-old city resident has reported an unidentified person to the Chatushrungi police station for allegedly stealing Rs 6.99 lakh from her bank account. According to the complaint, the accused approached the woman dressed as a police officer and informed her that someone had delivered a package under her name and that someone was abusing her AADHAR card.
According to the police complaint, an unidentified caller told the complainant that he had received a package from her and that if she hadn’t delivered it, she should tell the police about it. He then transferred the call to the police. She was instructed to download the Skype programme by the fictitious police officers, who then dialled her number and demanded information on her AADHAR card.
The accused persuaded the victim to deposit the money into his account by promising to return it to her after the investigation was finished. However, the complainant understood she had been duped by a cybercriminal after an hour had passed and she had not received a call from the accused.
Accordingly, a case has been opened at the Chaturshringi police station under sections 66(c) and 66(d) of the Information Technology Act as well as sections 419 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against an unidentified person. The matter is being looked into further by the police.
